The Faculty of Civil Engineering is the oldest Faculty of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and can trace its history back to the University's predecessor, the Institutum Geometricum, founded by Emperor Joseph II in 1782. In the past 229 years, thousands of engineers have graduated from this Faculty to work worldwide as educators, international researchers and engineering project managers.

The most essential service of the faculty – education linked closely to research and engineering work – is reflected in the scientific activities of nearly 140 engineers in 10 departments. They have contributed significantly to the scientific solution of diverse engineering problems. Out of the approximately 2300 students, who study at this Faculty, about 60 students from abroad participate in the English language program.

The engineering program in English lead to a B.Sc. degree in four years, in the Branch of Structural Engineering. The branch offers specific educational objectives: Graduates from the Branch of Structural Engineering create engineering structures by utilizing and designing structural materials. They are expected to design, construct and organize the investments of mechanically, structurally and technologically complex structures in cooperation with architects and transport and hydraulics specialists. Future structural engineers who graduate from this branch will be able to design and construct, among other things, flyovers and underground passages for traffic networks; power stations, cooling towers, craneways, transmission line structures and TV towers; halls, storehouses, industrial plants, and multi-storey buildings as well as hydraulic engineering and water supply structures.

Regulation of the credit-based tuition fee at the Faculty of Civil Engineering

1. The regulation is effective from the 2nd semester of the 2008/2009 academic year.

2. The regulation is valid for the students studying at the B. Sc. Course and registered for the first time for the B. Sc. Course at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in the 1st semester of the 2005/2006 academic year or later.

3. The procedure of the tuition fee payment:
a) the condition of the registration for a semester is to present the proof of payment of the basic tuition fee + the credit-based fee according to the standard curriculum for the given semester (usually 30 credits) reduced by the overpayment of the previous semester, (the amount of the basic tuition fee and the credit-based fee for 1 credit is given in the 1st Attachment),
b) after the subject registration period of the actual semester BME International Education Center (BME IEC) calculates the actual tuition fee and informs the student about it and his/her balance,
c) in case of overpayment the student can either reclaim the overpaid amount in HUF to his/her bank account in Hungary or transfer the overpayment to his/her further semester,
d) if the initially paid amount and the overpayment from the previous semester together do not cover the actual semester credits’ fee the student has to pay the difference by the end of the actual semester (the study period). If the student does not pay the difference in time the signatures and term marks achieved during the semester are not valid and he/she is not allowed to register and sit for any exams while his/her balance is negative.

4. The minimal tuition fee is the equivalent of the basic tuition fee + the fee for 15 credits in regular courses.

5. The maximal number of credits aimed in 1 semester is 36 excluding the exam courses.
